Review and Test Drive: 2017 Ford Focus ST – The Green Car Driver –
While the words “Ford Focus” might not generate a big grin on the part of most auto enthusiasts, adding two letters – ST – will surely change that. The ST is an enthusiast’s car, fun to drive, inexpensive, and powerful.
Our Ford Focus ST arrived in with the new Triple Yellow Metallic Tri-Coat that makes the car among the most eye-catching on the road.
It comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four banger that develops 252 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque along with a top-notch six-speed manual gearbox. It was built for winding roads and takes no prisoners in its pursuit of a fun ride.
Did we mention it’s based on a four-door hatch?

On the safety front, the 2017 ST comes with antilock disc brakes, stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver-side knee airbag. The Ford Sync system includes an emergency crash-notification feature that automatically dials 911 using the driver’s mobile phone. Ford added a rearview camera and the MyKey system, which can be used to set electronic parameters for teen drivers.
DRIVING THE 2017 FORD FOCUS ST
The ST is one of the few American cars that comes with summer tires, which translates to excellent grip and braking. (All-season tires are an inexpensive option but we still prefer running separate sets of summer and winter tires for optimum performance and safety.)
