Jaguar Debuts 2 New Diesel Models in the U.S. – The Green Car Driver –

Jaguar Land Rover announced the launch of two diesel-powered sedans in the United States.

Both come with the new Ingenium 2.0-liter inline four banger that develops 180 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 318 pound-feet of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm.  The diesel engine is paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The engine uses what Jaguar terms “advanced lightweight aluminum construction” [the 20d engine weighs only 304 pounds (138 kilograms)] and the British automaker says it is the first of a new generation of Ingenium engines that will come to these shores.

Both new Jags are capable of achieving 42 mpg (5.6 l/100 km)  on the highway with the 20d engine.  In the case of the XF, that’s a 44% increase in fuel economy over the petrol version while producing almost the same amount of torque.

The the XE 20d starts at $34,900, while the XF 20d has an MSRP of  $47,450.
