2014 Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTec – 6 Month Review and Report – The Green Car Driver –

On another drive, we were only able to achieve 33.1 mpg (7.1 l/100 km) but that was at somewhat ridiculously high speeds so it may be discounted.

While the new E-Class looked good when I saw it presented on stage at the Detroit auto show in January, it looks stunningly good up close. The interior is elegant, comfortable leather seats that provide just the right amount of support, and handsome natural wood that stretches across the entire dash. A new center-mounted analog clock adds an additional touch of retro-elegance.

BOTTOM LINE

The E250 may be missing two cylinders from the V6 E350 but it does benefit from (optional) all-wheel drive and its power, at least on paper, isn’t that far removed from its predecessor.

Given that the Chevrolet Cruze came in at 46 mpg (5.1 l/100 km) – the highest rating in 2014 for a non-hybrid vehicle – and that the Benz is only 4 mpg behind, with much more weight and all-wheel drive, it is now the cheapest E-Class available in the United States
