Review and Test Drive: 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SE 1.5T S-AWC – The Green Car Driver –

On paper, the Eclipse Cross should drive well but at best I’d have to give an unqualified OK in terms of driving dynamics.  It’s perfectly acceptable on smooth pavement but it isn’t terribly much fun for driver or passengers on bigger bumps nor was it terribly amusing on the winding roads we took around Bear Mountain.

By the numbers – zero to 60 (96) in 9.6 seconds – it shouldn’t feel fast but the 1.5-liter turbocharged four banger, which develops 152 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a continuously variable transmission and Mitsu’s Super All Wheel Control all-wheel drive system, an option on most variants, packs a decent amount of punch when pressing the pedal to the metal.

BOTTOM LINE

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, despite its good-looking exterior, comfortable interior, spacious second row, and good quality materials, can’t overcome the underpowered engine and dodgy handling to garner more than a “fair” rating from our testers.  It’s acceptable, but no more than that.
