Fuel economy is competitive for the segment, with EPA figures of 27 mpg (8.7 l/100 km) in city driving and 34 (6.9) on the highway. Our heavier all-wheel drive version was rated 27/32 (8.7/7.35).

Front passengers will have no cause for complaint but the rear is decidedly tight for two adults and the amount of cargo capacity available (12 cubic feet or 340 liters) is about on par with cars in this segment but it pales in comparison with the cavernous CX-5.

BOTTOM LINE

The good-looking Mazda CX-3 gives off the aura of a far more expensive vehicle with handling and comfort to match. Tradeoffs include limited rear-seat and cargo space but if those are concerns, there’s always the CX-5.
