2016 Acura TLX SH-AWD – First Look and Review – The Green Car Driver –

First unveiled to the public as the TLX Prototype at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, the all-new TLX began rolling off Acura’s Marysville, Ohio assembly line that summer as a 2015 model.

It appears Acura decided two were too many and the new TLX conflates many of the best attributes of its two predecessors. The wheelbase is almost identical to the outgoing TL’s, while the exterior dimensions are somewhat between the TL and TSX. Inside, while the dimensions are slightly smaller than either, it still feels quite spacious. Despite the inclusion of “X” in the new model name, it’s not an all-wheel drive vehicle although you can specify the optional SH-AWD variant.

Acura explains that its design philosophy for the TLX was the “Red Carpet Athlete,” connoting a blend of premium (hence the term “red-carpet”) refinement and “sports-sedan athleticism.”

Up front the TLX sports the carmaker’s signature Jewel Eye LED headlights with additional LEDs powering the taillights and accenting the side mirrors and license plate area.

DRIVING THE 2016 ACURA TLX

The TLX is available with a choice of all-new (at launch) four- or six-cylinder engines, although the all-wheel drive option is only available with the V6. Our short-term TLX was of the SH-AWD flavor, complete with all-wheel drive.
